The New Zealand Hooker's Sea Lion is the rarest sealion species in the world. You may have seen fur seals elsewhere in New Zealand — our sealions are much bigger.
This tour is 1 hour long. We can customise tours to be longer if required.
The aim is to find the sealions and observe them in their natural habitat — sometimes swimming in the water, sometimes gathered in big groups on land. They are curious animals with great personalities. Along the way we may also encounter little blue penguins, Stewart Island Cormorant/Shag, and more!
Yes — we recommend booking in advance to secure the times and dates you wish for. If you cannot find the times online, you can call or email us at any time.

If we deem the weather conditions or forecast to be dangerous, we will cancel the booking and you will receive a full refund. Please note, Stewart Island does receive a lot of rain and wind at times — be sure to bring clothing for all conditions. We can provide up-to-date forecasts to help you make informed decisions.
