Meet the Team

Our Skippers & Crew

Stewart Island SkipperPeter Cox

Our original skipper, a Stewart Island local.

Peter has long history working on the water, his passion lies in making wood come alive on the ocean to give you a feeling of the good old days.

Be sure to keep an eye out for nifty wood-work around our boats. With over 25 years working Paterson Inlet/Stewart Island – Peter’s knowledge of its history and water will enrich your visit with safe voyages.

Stewart Island Local

Anyta Cox

Our dedicated shore-station: Anyta is the magic behind our famous and much adored ‘Leaf Ticket’ boarding pass.

Her loving touch is also seen aboard the Ranui. Our show would not be half the memory you make without her.

Rakiura Herzhoff

Raised on Stewart Island, Rakiura returned to work these waters from an extended time away studying Anthropology and living overseas. His interest in people and passion for the ocean made it an easy decision to take a new turn and become a commercial skipper. There isn’t any other place he’d rather be than exploring the coastlines and sharing the experience.

Ulrike Herzhoff

Director of Rakiura Adventure Ltd. A lot of Ulrike’s hard work that makes this operation possible is not seen by our lucky visitors and guests. Having immigrated from Germany many years ago, she has made NZ her home and helps keep our show in ‘ship-shape’ whilst doing a million other things on the go. Without her this dream-team wouldn’t be a reality! Thanks Ulrike! (P.S. We carefully hand-picked this photo of her because we knew she’d love it…)

Also, a big thank you to many many others who are heavily involved in our business and lives who add such value. Some of you wished not to be mentioned here by name, some of you were too many to name, nonetheless we are grateful!
