A lot of what Stewart Island has to offer is outdoor based, being such a raw, untouched natural gem. However on a wild or wet day – the perfect place to be is in Dave’s cosy workshop, getting creative with your very own greenstone carving. Enjoy stunning views of Halfmoon Bay and the Foveaux Strait, and hang out with the super friendly little pup ‘Whero’.

Dave is an expert at teaching and working with people of all skill sets from all corners of the globe – so no matter what your skill level, you will walk away with a beautiful piece to treasure forever.
Additionally, feel free just to drop in and browse the many pieces on display and underway, or just strike up a conversation. Dave is an experienced spinner of local yarns, and has lived a very interesting history before settling on the Island, and into his greenstone carving studio.
Ask him about the art of carving, his artwork, the time he worked with Sir Peter Jackson on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, King Kong and The Legend of Zorro, or just have a chat about living and working in such a beautiful setting as Stewart Island.
